Tom sold the business in and built a home in the Mountains of Montana fulfilling a life-long dream. He physically built a square foot home on top of a mountain. He, his dog, Monty, and Gloria enjoyed many enjoyable years there. The property in Montana provided Tom many years of hunting on his own land. Tom loved boating and fishing there. Pioneered the first chapter of the Dickeyville Jaycees; was President the first year, and Vice President the second year. He always considered Dickeyville his home.

Virginia devoted her entire life to her family. She was a loving wife, and an even more amazing mother and grandmother. Her devotion never wavered, her patience never tired and her commitment to those she loved will continue to be clearly evident within the stories which will be shared by those who knew and loved her in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.
Virginia did thankfully find a little personal time now and then to indulge in some of her favorite activities also. An afternoon in the flower garden, or some downtime relaxing with her adored pets would always warm Virginia's heart and place a sincere smile upon her face. Bum was a good and decent man who enjoyed a dance at Melody Mill as much as an honest days work back on the farm. He was truly respected by all who knew and loved him and the memories of Bum walking around with his dog by his side will definitely help carry us through the difficult days ahead. We will deeply miss our dear brother, uncle and friend, but take some comfort in knowing that he is now free of the health challenges he has faced these past months and that thankfully he is now able to be joyfully reunited with all of his loved ones whom have already been called home ahead of him.

During medical school, Mark was awarded membership to the prestigious AOA medical honor society, an honor only bestowed to students who show high academic standing, professionalism, a firm sense of ethics, commitment to community service, and the promise of future success in medicine.
He was a founding member of the American Association of Emergency Medicine, one of the nation's largest academic medical associations. Most notably, Mark was the first board certified Emergency Medicine physician practicing in Iowa and, after arriving in Dubuque, he formed the first fully board certified Emergency Medicine department in Iowa.
He loved to learn and to teach. He challenged his kids to "learn how to learn. Mark touched many lives in the Emergency Department at Mercy, from his nurses and colleagues, to the patients passing through. When Mark went anywhere in town, he was guaranteed to be stopped by folks wanting to talk to him, calling out "hey doc!
He humbly accepted their thanks and moved on, not wanting to shine the light on himself for too long. Mark loved his work and never thought that saving lives was anything but what he was supposed to do.
He was fiercely dedicated to his children and a loyal friend. Ever the eccentric, Mark was known for his wild landscaping and interior design.
He loved donning a sharp suit just to go have a glass of wine with his buddies or simply pop on his big straw hat and sit on his porch and watch the Iowa storms roll through town. Her grandfather in particular performed such tasks just to hear Sarah's giggle.
